Kammerklang presents...

"Worship the Machine"

A high flying aerial show about machines, technology and how they change us

In late May 2011 (Date TBC) Kammerklang will be collaboratively creating an aerial show with director and aerial choreographer, Lil Tulloch and a group of young and aspiring trapeze, tissu, and circus artists. The routines will be set to and inspired by new works for mixed ensemble and pre-recorded audio (tape) by 4 young, emerging composers and Artistic Director, Cameron Lam.

“Worship the Machine” is great way for composers to get an insight into writing music for movement based arts (such as dance, circus or theatre) and to experiment with combining electronic and acoustic composition.

About the project:

The aim of this project to produce a 1-1.5 hour show featuring a small group of performers specialising in any combination of trapeze, tissu (aerial silk), lyra (aerial hoop), corde d’lisse (Spanish web) or acrobatics. The music will be written for a small ensemble of 6 musicians (detailed below) and pre-recorded audio. Each composer will be responsible for 10-15 minutes of music split over a number of pieces, coming together with the other composers to complete and order the works.

The ensemble is: (subject to confirmation)

Player 1: Accordion/Keyboard/Voice

Player 2: Accordion/Double Bass/Voice

Player 3: Saxophones

Player 4: Clarinet/Bass Clarinet/EWI4000 [A wind synthesiser]

Player 5: Percussion [Mainly found sound, but open for discussion]

Player 6: Electric/Amplified Guitar

The show would have a 3/4 show run over a weekend in late May, currently planned for the Addison Road Centre in Marrickville. Works should be completed by Feb 2011, with only minor revisions leading up to the performances.

Kammerklang will be producing a CD of the project with a limited run (approx. 200 CDs) which will be available for sale, also publishing of the works is available through Kammerklang’s sister company, Music Forge Australia.
