Submissions Open for Kammerklang Vox and More 2010 Projects
Moving forward from an amazing and well-received debut concert and exhibition, Kammerklang in 2010 will
continue to push the bar with 4 new projects.
This year’s 60secs project has been postponed until August 2010 to allow us to investigate the combination
of sound, space and location in addition to presenting these bite-sized pieces of music. 60secs in 2010 will
take advantage of sound placement as well as the hospitable environment, so you can sample some of the
best food, wine and music in Sydney.
2010 will kick off with a series of concerts, Symbology, featuring the Ivinson Sax Quartet. The quartet
will tour alongside an exhibition of artworks to various cafes, performing the pieces that were created in
tandem with the artwork. The pieces (both musical and visual) draw on the themes of symbolism and
hidden meaning and take advantage of the intimate performance spaces.
Kammerklang also joins forces with Halcyon (singers, Jenny Duck-Chong and Alison Morgan) to
present Kammerklang Vox, the successor to Kammerklang 2009 in May. Kammerklang extends
the cross-artform collaborations even further, drawing on Australia’s young writers to provide the
texts for the pieces the 6 composers will produce. This concert will also feature Artistic Director,
Cameron Lam’s next Orphic Hymn, to Selene (The Moon) commissioned for Halcyon and the full
(now expanded) Kammerklang Orchestra. The art exhibition will extend onto the stage as well,
featuring video footage and choreography to augment the live performances.
Finally to conclude the season, Music at an Exhibition will place the spotlight on the work of 10 young visual artists. These artists will work with Kammerklang to produce an exhibition drawn together by a sound installation. In addition, an acoustic work will be commissioned, much in the spirit of Mussorgsky’s Picture at and Exhibition, as a response to each of the individual pieces. This work will be performed at various times through the exhibition’s one week showing.
Composers, artists, choreographers, writers, film-makers and musical performers interested in being involved in any of the projects above or would like to alert us to themselves, should fill out the new Kammerklang Application Form for 2009-2010. There are also additional positions available for graphic design (1 for each concert) and poster art (1-3 for each concert). Application Information can be found here.
