Jason Pestana is a Sydney based composer currently completing a
Bachelor of music degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Jason
composes music in a variety of genres, from contemporary arts music to
cabaret and alternate rock. In 2007 Jason collaborated with Stephen
Anderson and Crystal Heggidis, producing a short cabaret act for the
2007 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
In 2008 Jason began writing his first Operetta, working with Librettist Centine
Wilbers. The short work includes over 25 minutes of new music and 30
minutes of script. The Operetta is due to debut in late 2009.
In 2008 Jason also joined the Wollongong based alternate rock band
‘The Nice Folk’ as keyboardist. With an odd mix of grunge, blue
grass and classic rock, Jason is creatively free to place his Ray Manzarek
meets David Bowie captured style keyboard riffs into the mix.
Jason Pestana believes in appropriateness of music, where music
must be subdued when carrying heavy lyrical material with poignant
themes. However, when appropriate, Jason attempts to make his music
rhythmically and harmonically interesting with his own brand sound of
thick crushed and cluster chords, pedal points and active melodies.
